Hand County Memorial Hospital’s mission is to assess, maintain, restore, and improve the health of our community, as well as recognize and preserve the need for each individual’s human dignity through our service. 

Hand County Memorial Hospital, Inc. (HCMH, Inc.) is a community-based organization dedicated to providing health services, education, and wellness opportunities to the residents of Hand and Hyde Counties.

Our organization supports the community through four key areas: assisted living, ambulance services, dietary services, and wellness facilities.

Assisted Living

Our assisted living facility provides a comfortable, supportive home for up to 24 residents. Depending on occupancy, we provide approximately 7,400–7,900 resident days each year, with most of our residents coming from the Hand County area. We also provide toenail care for elderly residents.

Hand County Ambulance Service

Hand County Ambulance Service provides emergency ambulance services throughout the area. For the year ending June 30, 2026, our team responded to 267 ambulance calls.

Our services include: Emergency medical response, ground transfers to other healthcare facilities, standby services for structure fires, coverage for football games, rodeos, and community events, and community health and safety education.

Our ambulance service is supported by 22 EMTs and two ambulances, allowing us to provide dependable emergency and community services when they are needed most.

Dietary Services

Our dietary department supports residents, patients, and community members through a variety of meal programs. Each year, our team provides approximately: 19,455 meals for assisted living residents,1,950 meals through our contracted services with Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital for hospital patients, and 4,212 meals through the Meals on Wheels program in Miller.

Through these services, our dietary team helps ensure nutritious meals are available to residents and patients both within our facilities and throughout the community.

Wellness Facilities

HCMH Inc. operates two 24-hour wellness facilities, located in Miller and Highmore. These facilities provide residents of Hand and Hyde Counties with convenient opportunities to stay active, maintain healthy lifestyles, and make wellness a part of their everyday lives.

Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital is fortunate to partner with two wonderful foundations that help us meet the needs of our community. Through the Avera Foundation, generous donors provide gifts and endowments that support healthcare in ways meaningful to them. We also have access to larger grant opportunities that help strengthen healthcare services and our community. The Hand County Health, Wellness, and Community Foundation, established in 2009, is dedicated to supporting projects and programs that make a difference in our community. There are many ways you can be part of our family of care — through giving, volunteering, or prayer. Every gift, large or small, helps us enhance the services we provide to our neighbors and friends.
